Miao Changwen, male, born in August 1957, Professor, PhD student supervisor, graduated from Nanjing Institute of Technology (currently Southeast University) specializing in Building Material and Product in January 1982. In February 1982, he went to work at China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research and then has been working at Jiangsu Research Institute of Building Science Co., Ltd. from July 1984 until now. During the period, he was studying in Denmark from January 1986 to January 1987. At present, he is serving as a professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Southeast University, Chairman of Jiangsu Research Institute of Building Science Co., Ltd., Director and Chief Expert of key national laboratory of high-performance civil engineering material, deputy to the 9th, 10thand 11thNational People's Congress. In November 2011, he was elected as the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. Right now, he is also concurrently serving as a member of the Management and Decision-Making Committee of International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RELEM), Managing Director of China Building Material Federation, Director of China Civil Engineering Society, Executive Vice Chairman of Jiangsu Civil Engineering & Architectural Society and Vice Chairman of China Concrete & Cement-based Products Association, etc.

Academician Miao Changwen has been long engaged in the research on the theory of civil engineering material and the application of engineering technology. He has been active in the forefront of significant engineering construction projects in China for over two decades. He has undertaken over 30 scientific research projects at national, provincial and ministerial level including “National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program)” and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. Thanks to great efforts, multiple achievements have been made in terms of research on key technology of crack resistance of concrete, research on technology for promoting the service life and endurance quality of significant infrastructure engineering, R&D of multifunction civil engineering material, etc.. These achievements have been verified in the construction of significant engineering projects and have made great contribution to the undertaking of engineering construction in China.

Academician Miao Changwen has in succession won three second prizes of National Award for Progress in Science and Technology and five first prizes of the Award for Progress in Science and Technology at the provincial and ministerial level, obtained 32 national invention patents, published 4 monographs and over 100 papers, of which 60 have been included by SCI, EI or ISTP. Besides, hes also enjoying high reputation internationally. He’s been granted such honours as Hong Kong Ho Leung Ho Lee Award, National Outstanding Professional and Technical Personnel Award, Top 10 Outstanding Patent Inventor of Jiangsu Province, the 1stInnovative and Entrepreneurial Talent Award of Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Model Worker, Advanced Returned Individual from Overseas Study of Jiangsu Province and Nanjing Science and Technology Meritorious Award, etc.
